DEWALT 1/4 in. Wood Chisel

Already have many. Always nice to have a spare.

Seems like a nice chisel. I haven’t used it yet, so not sure how it will perform. But the handle is nice!

Perfect for small areas and detail.

Great chisel for the price.

Good construction we will see how well it holds an edge.

It did the job I bought it for, morticing a lock set in a door jamb. It was sharp enough right of the box to complete that task.

This DeWalt ¼” chisel (Model DWHT16857, Made on China) came ground to a roughly 25 deg bevel which needed to be sharpened/honed before use. That’s not uncommon with most chisels. Sharpening was easy, so I suspect the carbon steel was not of the hardest variety – but that’s to be expected at this low price point. Once sharpened (and flattened) it cuts very nicely. The rubberized handle is extremely comfortable in use, with just enough “give” to reduce vibration if using a hammer on the end. It’s much more comfortable than many similarly-priced chisels with plastic handles. So while this chisel will never replace the high-quality ones used by serious wood workers/cabinet makers, it is very adequate for most DIYers and carpenters.
