Nice weight for snapping Pergo flooring together, handle is smooth and well contoured to my hand. Like to have the the rubber/ nylon head options.

These yellow/red mallets are nice for trim carpentry. Soft red side let’s you safely hit your workpiece into place and the hard yellow side let’s you hit a nail punch. The Estwing red side is a little too firm and the curve of the handle is too much.

I gave the mallet 5 stars for it’s overall quality, even though I was going to modify it somewhat. I will be using the mallet gripping it both at the end of the handle as well as somewhere near the middle, depending on how hard I want to hit. For this reason, I modified the handle to take the “bulge” near the center out, making it basically the same size for the whole length, but leaving the end flare to give a more secure grip. Once I had the shape where I wanted it, I scraped the handle to remove the factory finish and applied a couple of coats of boiled linseed oil. Final step was to wrap it with tape to give a better grip.

This is a great product! well-formed hickory handle and two “soft” faces – one (the red one) rubber and the other (yellow) plastic for less flex. Lots of applications – putting together furniture, driving in dowels, closing a paint can. Others make similar tools but I like this one best. I’ve owned one for many years and recently purchased 3 more for others in my family.

Finally broke my rubber mallet and needed to finish a project and the Estwing double-face soft hammer was the only replacement I could find. It did the job but I would have preferred a softer surface for the project. I am looking forward to trying it out on other projects.
