Estwing 16 oz. Rip Claw Hammer with Leather Grip

This product is what I have been looking for for quite some time.

I bought this hammer based solely on its nostalgic value and I am keeping it; however, as a hammer, it is overpriced. Maybe it doesn’t matter to you, but I wanted the handle to be as perfect as possible since that is why I was paying a premium. I ordered 3 hammers just to find one that had the white and black stripes relatively straight and without serious flaws. As for its hammeryness, it feels much heavier than hammers with similar striking power which would lead to arm fatigue if used for extended periods. It’s a hammer. It will pound nails. If you are going to pound nails all day long, buy a different hammer. It sure is fun to look at.

Older one in poor shape cost as much. This one looks good, feels good, and nice to use. Easy to purchase through Home Depot

I bought my Estwing 20 oz. straight claw hammer with leather grip in 1973. I used it as my primary hammer on construction sites from then until I changed trades in 1990. The claws are significantly shorter now and I have ground the face a couple of times. Although now a lawyer and merely occupied with home projects, the hammer has pride of place in my workshop. I have bought new ones to give to friends in Europe, where they cannot find hammers of this fine quality and design.

I’ve been using the 16 oz. leather Estwing for 25 years. I love it! Not too light or too heavy.

Best 16oz you’ll ever swing. The drive of a rubber grip est wing but no vibrations up your arm thanks to the leather grip.
