SAE/ METRIC Drive 12-Point Ratchet and Socket Set (57 Piece)This socket set from GearWrench is another example of their typical high quality tool offerings at a reasonable price point and contains a full selection of the important M.M. and S.A.E. sizes. (Regular as well as deep sockets.) Each of the sockets are laser printed with the size marked in large and easy to read markings. The M.M. sockets are knurled so you can feel you have a M.M. socket in hand before you even look at it. They give the immediate impression of professional grade with really nice chrome plating. I noticed the quality of these the minute I picked up a socket. The difference is obvious between my old Sears set and the GearWrench socket set. The two socket wrenches with 84 tooth ratchets are smooth as glass and the fine ratcheting is important for when you must tighten or loosen bolts in close quarters. What I like about the “storage case” is every socket pocket has the size embossed in the plastic case and it is simple for me to keep the sockets organized. GearWrench makes some sets that have “carry cases” (handles) but this set does not. It is probably best in a tool chest drawer (That’s how I am using it) you can easily remove the lid and when you open the drawer they are ready to grab in your tool chest drawer or roll around base drawer. If you want to carry the case you will want to glue a piece of dense foam to the inside top lid as the contents will move around inside the case if you tuck under your arm. The quality of this 57-piece chrome socket set appears to be on par with the well-known name brands. The deep well 12-point sockets fit over long bolts even on very small size nuts! This set contains both SAE and Metric 12-point sockets and 2 sizes of ratchets that have very short strokes to allow working in tight spaces. My only complaint is with the blow-mold non-carrying box. If you stand the box (there is no handle on the box), most of the sockets will fall out of their designated location and you’ll have to sort them out before you use them every time you move the box from the flat position.

Nice set of 3/8 sockets, and ratchets. This seems like a good set with the somewhat unusual attribute of two 3/8 ratchets and really small 3/8 sockets instead of making the really small sockets 1/4 drive and including a 1/4 ratchet. I don’t see a problem doing it this way but I have not seen it before. The set has both SAE and metric sockets and both regular length and deep sockets for both. So it is a good sized set. It also has a couple length of extensions and a wobble extension. You could overpower a small fastener with a normal 3/8 ratchet which may be one reason they give you a stubby too. Everything is well marked and the case seems well enough made it will be useful too.

This is a great, sturdy set of both metric and SAE sockets and ratchets in standard and deep sizes. SAE set is identified by a double line vs metric sockets with knurled line (MM). All sockets are marked with large but not very easy to see markings. Part of the set are 84 tooth full polish chrome thin profile ratchets. Those have a patented, low profile and performance head.Sockets Feature Off-Corner Loading Design to Reduce Fastener Rounding as well as serration depth as deep as the fastener. The set has chrome finish and includes a molded storage case. The set is great, easy to use, ergonomic and practical. One drawback is the lack of carrying handle on the case. In addition, the molded case does not fit tightly over the set. Standing the case up vertical scrambles the sockets. Few pieces of bubble wrap fixed that issue.Overall, this is a great, well-made SAE and metric ratchet and standard plus deep socket set.

This is the ideal 3/8 drive socket set for any mechanic to own. Not only does it come with both common used standard sizes for SAE and MM, but also come with deep well sockets in both SAE and MM. The sturdy storage case is perfect to store the sockets in but also makes it very convenient to move the set to your work area to have all your sockets needed for most jobs within easy reach. Not only are the sockets label with the sizes but the storage box is also labeled to keep them organized in, which makes it easier to find the size you need for someone like me who’s eye sight isn’t as good as it used to be.

This GearWrench set (Model 80551, Made in Taiwan) has a lot to offer. It has about every 3/8″-drive socket you’ll ever need, and the two, different length drives provide flexibility in tight spaces, It includes two extensions and a universal flex adaptor. The 84-tooth drive gear allows use in very tight spaces, where less than 5 degrees of ratchet rotation is needed to turn the bolt/nut. I find the ratchet handles a bit uncomfortable, preferring a thicker, flatter grip, but these work fine. The drive head includes a standard spring-loaded ball to hold the socket in place, but it can’t be temporarily disengaged like on some other drives. That makes it harder to attach or remove the socket. Again, these work fine and it may be a matter of personal preference. The sockets are all 12-point, which are more versatile than 6-point, and provide a strong grip on nuts and bolt heads. I didn’t find them any better or worse than other quality 12-point sockets. Each socket is engraved with its size, though the glare of the polished-chrome surface can make it hard to read in some light conditions. Everything in the set fits securely in a blown-plastic molded case, which also has embossed size markings where every socket goes. It really helps keep everything organized and easy to find. The case has a nice feature where the cover can be removed, useful if you normally store the set in a drawer, for example. I found the cover very difficult to remove though, requiring a firm blow with a mallet to disengage the hinge “pins” from their sockets. (See photo). I little filing of the plastic pins will fix that.This is a good general purpose set. It has a lifetime warranty, though I’m not sure how to take advantage of that (and I haven’t needed to with other GearWrench tools). There are a lot of 3/8″ socket sets on the market, differing in socket markings, grip shapes and price. This one is worth considering.

Very nice set. Compact and easy to use. Well organized and arranged by size, although the sizes are a bit hard to read. This set met all my expectations in that they are well made in a nice weight and feel good in your hand. They come in a convenient molded case which is great to use at home, but also convenient to take with you in the car if needed.A bit of padding in the case would be a nice touch. (The pieces were loose and all mixed together in shipping – something a layer of foam might have prevented.) Overall, I am quite pleased with the set and would definitely recommend this set to others.

This ratchet set has all the sockets I was looking for in a compact case. It has standard depth sockets, and deep well sockets in both SAE ( sizes 1/4″ through 1″ ) and metric ( sizes 6mm through 19mm ). It has an 8 1/4″ ratchet and a 4 3/4″ stubby ratchet along with 3″ and 6″ and swivel extensions. The sizes are etched in easy to read numbers and are especially large on the deep well sockets.

This is a nice looking 57 piece socket set with both SAE and metric sockets. The set has two rackets – a regular length and a short one that it called a “stubby”. The set comes with 2 extensions and 1 universal joint. It is a 3/8″ drive and the sockets are all 12 point sockets. Each tool has an individual slot in the tool box and each socket is clearly marked with its size. The only negative is the plastic tool box has no handle and when you tilt the closed tool box, all the tools fall out of their compartment. This could be easily fixed with a nice thick piece of foam that would keep some pressure on the tools when the lid is closed.
