Milwaukee Self-Retracting Utility Knife with Carton Blade

This utility knife is amazing. It has a nice weight to it and the blade itself is extremely sharp. So be careful and keep away from kids for sure. I had to break down a bunch of boxes and cut through some drywall. This knife came in handy. It has a lock on the side if you want to keep the blade out. The material is really nice so makes clean up easier.

Not very sharp and blade doesn’t stickbout far enough

Sharp, sturdy, utility knife with self-retracting safety built in. We do not worry about breaking the blade of this knife by dropping it, or having it get into little hands, since the blade retracts as soon as you take your thumb off of it. We use utility knives to break down boxes for recycling, and this one does a good job. In addition, it has a second, shallower, depth setting for the blade placement, using the second notch of the blade, which allows us to open boxes without cutting deeply (see photos). The screw that holds the knife together is made so that it cannot fall out, which we appreciate. The first time we opened up the knife, we had to use pliers to turn the screw (placing a paper towel over the screw head to protect it from the metal of the pliers). But after that first time, the screw turned by hand. Extra blades can be stored inside the handle of the knife. This is a nicely designed, well made, safe, utility knife.

This utility knife has become my “go to” blade for opening the hard to open plastic molded packing. Things like cards of batteries and other products that are sealed into molded plastic. I like that the knife is self retracting as for me I feel safer using it rather than a static blade utility knife. I also use it to cut cardboard into small sections for recycling.

This retractable utility knife by Milwaukee is the best! It has a solid feel to it, the surface is matted to aid the grip, and it feels good in hand. The blade will only come out when you slide the button conveniently located at the top of the knife and will retract when you let go. It does take some getting used to, at times you’d use your thumb or your index finger to push the slider, but it’s doable. Still the best utility knife I’ve ever had. The retractable blade is a great safety feature because you sure don’t want the blade sticking out when you carry this knife around with you. It has lanyard opening at the other end, so I just carry it with me and easily use when needed. I am using this knife every day, from opening cardboard boxes to cutting them down so they fit in the trash, and more. Just used it to turn a cardboard box inside out to return an item I had purchased online. The Milwaukee utility knife is holding up just fine and will no doubt last a long time. It even stores 5 spare blades for the added convenience and flexibility of use. What can I say, it’s Milwaukee! Another awesome tool by this brand. I own a few Milwaukee tools, have a high confidence in this brand and this utility knife won’t disappoint. It’s a must have in a toolbox. Highly recommended.

The awesome feature is the safety feature of the self retracting blade. In order to use the knife, you extend the lever forward which exposes the blade. When you release it, whether outright or controlled, the blade automatically retracts into the knife blade. This is an awesome safety feature, especially if young people are using or have access to the knife.The housing of the knife is metal, coated in a nice red base. The knife allows a tool free blade change by unscrewing the two halves and then flipping or changing the blade completely. The housing also stores five (5) spare blades. The housing has a lanyard hole for a chord attachment.The knife comes with a limited lifetime warranty. The knife is made in China.I’m very satisfied with Milwaukee Tools and their knives. This type of knife is specifically designed to be used in factories where there must be a minimal chance of lacerations and other incident reports. From a design perspective, the thumb screw was a big mistake for Milwaukee; it will unscrew and fall apart in your pocket! However, you can fix this by wrapping the screw in plumber’s thread tape. If this is still annoying, I’d recommend buying the self-retracting safety knife sold by Hyde or Stanley.

The MILWAUKEE SELF-RETRACTING UTILITY KNIFE is comfortable to hold, easy to use and ti extend the blade out for use. The button to extend the blade is nice and large and has no-slip grooves making it easier than some other brands. Changing out the blades is also very easy (no need for a screwdriver) with the large button that just needs a turn with your fingers to open the knife body. Works great.

This is one of the better utility knifes that I have owned over the years. The Milwaukee has a metal body with a self retracting blade. It is easy to grip and changing the blade entails unscrewing the plastic screw and lifting the body off. The housing stores up to five utility inside, so you never have to look for additional blades when your blade goes dull. I have used this to open taped up boxes and it works great.
