RIDGID 18-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless 1/2 in. Hammer Drill/Driver (Tool Only)

I have my Ridgid driver for 3 yrs. I am your average weekend Do-It-Yourself handy guy. I use it for everything and literally put it through everything. When im not making holes in 1/8 metal, building a wooden structure, constructing a raised flower bed, my drill rarely get a breather. Some of the job require more power but its charger can have another battery charge before I need it. After 3 yrs of being my weekend sidekick, the chuck got struck for some unknown reason. Since I had registered my Ridgid power tool the same day I bought them ( lifetime warranty), I didnt have to be looking for no receipt like I hear some people had trouble. I called the customer service and they were very helpful. A little wait but I got great service. I was instructed to take to a service provider or rental provider. I drop it off and had to wait for my phonecall when it was ready. It took 9 days and was called and informed my driver was ready. I when to pick it up and got a newer model replacement. Then I called the customer service and has it registered again. It took but minutes. That what I call a company that back their word about lifetime warranty. JUST REGISTER IT AS SOON AS YOU GET IT SO YOU WON’T FORGET! Im just a average guy and these Ridgid power tools and warranty can’t be beat. I decided to write long review because when a company needs praise they rightfully deserve. Everything will sooner or later have a problem, we all know that, but Ridgid got my back for life.

Really nice Hammer Drill, but too heavy for everyday drilling and screwing. Especially overhead wqork.

The drill had plenty of power and easy to use

I’m going to start off saying I am a cordless tool addict. I have about 7 different brands of newer model cordless drill/drivers and a good basis of comparison. Since performance can vary depending on the battery used, I want to point out I’m using the newer 4ah battery in this drill. To be honest there are not a lot of major differences between the higher end brands of cordless tools these days. However this ridgid has a few stand out features:1 – The different modes. There is a setting for hammer, drill, and driver in addition to clutch and speed settings. This is awesome. That means I can select high and low speeds when drilling, hammering, or driving screws. The clutch setting is independent and really nice. No detents or stops, just a smooth. fluid motion ring that lets you stop anywhere in the range. I also really like the switch for changing modes. It’s on both sides. Being a lefty, it made me feel like at least one of the product designers was also a lefty.2 – The chuck ratchets. I like this feature. 3 – This has A LOT of torque. If you do a lot of masonry drilling, you’ll appreciate this. I don’t, but I do use a lot of larger diameter augers and spade bits. The extra torque is noticeable. Battery life is subjective and circumstantial depending on usage and environmental conditions. I didn’t find it any better or worse than my other tools equipped with 4ah batteries – which is actually saying a lot because the other tools I have are brushless and this one is not. However if you are to buy this, be aware that it’s very large. This is not the Brushless Gen5x which is considerably smaller. In the pictures I compare this to the newer versions of brushless hammer drills. It’s not ideal for tight spaces. Overall this is my new go-to for high torque applications. In addition the ergonomics are top notch. Those factors along with the lifetime service agreement make this tool really hard to beat

First off, I’ve only had this drill for a short time. Four stars because for anything to receive 5 stars it must work as intended and do so over an extended period of time.The drill seems to be solidly built, plenty of power, easy to adjust, the belt clip is handy. Time will tell if it’s a 5 star power tool.

This a really well built and powerful cordless hammer ~ drill ~ driver 3 in 1. It doesn’t come with a battery so you will need to buy one if you don’t have one already from other Ridgid cordless tools. I had a battery so was happy to start using this right away. I needed to put some hooks into a brick wall and this made quick work of drilling and then screwing in the hooks. I had attempted it with my regular cordless drill but it just couldn’t do the job. This is a bit heavy and I wouldn’t want to use it for a long period of time but for a man with bigger hands than mine it would be fine. I really like the light that is built in and comes on automatically when the trigger is pulled making it easy to see what you are working on. It comes with a handle that attaches at the top to help stabilize and apply pressure while using which is very handy. It also has a detachable belt clip, although this is kind of heavy to wear on your belt I think.

Product is good, getting the lifetime warranty registration was a nightmare. They put you through the ringer and I believe it’s a tactic to get people to give up so they do not get the lifetime warranty. I sent my receipt in 2 times, update the registration information on line and they sent me multiple emails and a poor quality photocopy of a form letter asking for the serial number when I entered it online. They claimed part of it was missing but no where on the drill was there any other numbers. Finally got it resolved by calling and expressing my dissatisfaction of the process.
