WEN 14 in. 90-Tooth Carbide-Tipped Professional Metal Saw Blade for Thin Steel Cutting

The capabilities of this blade are not printed on the blade or packaging materials. After several exchanges with customer service at WEN, I learned that the blade is recommended for mild steel and aluminum up to 1/4-inch thick, including tubes/pipe with a 1/4-inch wall thickness. This is critical information that should be included with the blade and product description. I asked about using it for wood and plastics since my other cold saw blade can be used on those materials but WEN stated that other blades should probably be used.I performed comparative material cuts with my old 38-tooth blade and the new 90-tooth WEN blade on wood, PVC pipe, aluminum and 1-1/2 X 1/-1/2 X 3/16 angle. The results were very similar. The WEN blade produced slightly fewer small splinters on the wood. The WEN blade smoothly cut the PVC pipe without burrs, whereas the 38-tooth blade left a small chip at the bottom of the cut. The aluminum was cut equally cleanly with a very small burr that was easily removable. The steel angle was also cut cleanly by both blades leaving a very, very small burr. All materials except the steel cut at the same rate; the 38-tooth blade cut steel quicker with the same amount of force. See comparative photos below..

Overall I am pleased with the results with this blade. It is quite a bit more than an aluminum oxide abrasive blade, but it does more. It is intended for mild steel and aluminum, but it will cut pvc or even wood if needed. Try that with your abrasive blade! I was pleased with how clean it made cuts in both steel and aluminum. Pretty much no burr! As to the longevity of the blade that remains to be seen, but I have no reason to think it won’t last.

I always cut my metal with an abrasive blade, It was messy and there was always the chance of starting a fire. But not any more. I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. This blade is good for cutting most mild steel, plastic and aluminum. It is made to last and can be sharpened many times. This is a low speed blade with a maximum speed of 1450 RPM. So you need to make shore that your saw will not over speed the blade. I don’t know if you have seen a blade explode, but I have and you don’t want to be around. This 14-inch 90 tooth saw blade has a one-inch arbor hole is designed for cutting thin metals and most anything other than masonry. It arrived in pristine shape and very sharp. I got this blade to cut some corrugated tin for a shed we are building. When we started cutting the steel, we had no problems whatso ever cutting it and will be using this from now on. I would recommend this blade.

Though we’ve recently started using this blade, from all indications the quality of the cut and ease of which it cuts through steel is excellent!

I used to do all my cutting with an abrasive cut-off disc. It’s pretty much just the way my dad did it so I followed suit without questioning. Then I discovered a portable electric band saw and now these cut-off blades. You don’t need water for these, yet you have much less sparking and no wheel residue piling up on your workbench (messy gritty yucky). Make sure and check the RPMs on your cutoff saw, you don’t want to overspin these. It’s hard for me to think that metal-on-metal could ever work for any length of time, but for light/thin gauge material, this blade proved me wrong! Spendy, but a good tool and a good investment; I’ve heard they can even be resharpened.
