Wiss 24 in. Folding Tool

This 24″ folding tool works well and is an incredibly simple design that is useful, will take up very little space, and requires no real instruction to a trained user in the trades. It has 3/8 in. and 1 in. depth folding channels that help to maintain uniform bends. Great for HVAC work when installing new duct but I can see other uses are possible. If I fold aluminum coil stock against a wood platform, the bend can be made quite a bit tighter and less rounded. I am going to try it out on some fascia metal on a project in the coming weeks and will see how it fares…I think it is possible and if so, will save a lot of time/hassle on the smaller areas without the need of using a break. I recommend it but when you get one, I highly recommend that you check the tools 4 corners and continuity of the pocket for any bends or defects.

A simple but effective way of making bends in sheet metal, this tool is solidly built, rated for up to 24 gauge mild steel and is provided with 3/8 inch and 1 inch depth bending channels. Four diamond shaped sight holes are provided for each edge, located at the bottom of the bending channel, to allow visual confirmation that the metal is seated fully prior to bending. A hole is provided at each end which can be used to hang up the tool when not in use (or to secure it to prevent walking). Although the manufacturer’s specifications indicate 24 gauge mild steel as the maximum stock to be bent, I did try a bend on some 18 gauge mild steel expanded metal with reasonably good results (see photo). All in all, a nicely made and useful tool.

This folding tool works fantastic and has given me the ability to fold metal exactly on a straight line and it looks professionally done! It has slots on both sides to insert the metal and based on how far you slide it in you have the ability to adjust the size of the fold. I used it to fold and bend stainless flashing to make a new tray for my rabbit cage and you can’t even tell it wasn’t purchased from the store. I will be using this tool over and over again!

I do a lot of duct fabrication and install work, so I am always in need of a good folding bar.This unit is nice, and delivers a clean bend on 26 gauge galvanized without any issues. The welds that hold the bar together feel nice and tight, and I don’t think I’ll have any issues with this bar separating over time.Steel is a good weight, and feels durable. I’ve used this for flanging out several start collars in the shop and haven’t noticed any corner stress or weakness in the tool. Should be good to go for years!

This is a really neat tool! It’s the sort of thing that has a very specific job … but can also be used for other tasks and that’s what makes it even more valuable. Sure, you can rely on it to help you fold sheet metal with accurate 3/8″ and 1″ consistent bends. It’s really heavy duty and should last a life time. You can also use it as an accurate straight edge for razor knives and plan marking. You might even find that marking the edges gives you a bit of use as an architectural ruler. Imagine what you can do with a nicely finished, 24″ piece of steel on your drawing table or in your desk draw. That’s what this is and it gets used every day.

W and made of heavy 16- gauge steel. On one side of the folding tool it bends 3/8 in. And the other side it bends 1 in. On the folding tool there is 8 alignment holes so you can see if your sheet metal is inserted all the way in the groove that helps you make even Bends. Also on each end of the folding tool there are holes for hanging the tool when it’s not in use. Wiss makes quality tools they have been in business for over 50 years.I am so excited I got this tool I just love it! It has made my work much simpler. You can also Bend angles from 0 % to 180 % with this folding tool. This is a lightweight folding tool it weighs under 3 lb.Five stars for this simple tool but very effective I will recommend it to everybody.

Wiss Folding Tool – the standard tool for bending duct ends. Not fancy but does its job very well….To join the ends of hot-air heating ducts you fold-back the sides and drive a clip on the folded ears. You can’t get a neat bend with fingers or pliers. A metal-brake is inconvenient. However this simple tool folds-back edges quick and easy. Put the edge to be bent in the slot in the edge of the tool. One side makes 3/8″ bends, the other makes 1″ bends, and other sizes can be handled if you mark the bend line and take a little care. Bend the edge. You can bend 90 degrees for screws or rivets, or 180 degrees for duct-cleats. It is also useful for other thin sheet. My neighbor uses one to flange patch-panels to repair rusted car floors. Maximum capacity is about 0.030″. About #22 steel, #20 Aluminum. It does not make a “tight” bend, such as a proper metal brake with clamps can do. For joining ducts, a little roundness in the bend helps the seal. You can bend a little sharper by working against hard wood. Heavy gauge steel, well welded. My sample was nicely finished but shipped “bare” and picked up a small nick which does not hurt operation. I imagine this will last a lifetime even in daily use.

This sheet metal bender is the perfect tool for creating bends in flashing or sheet metal. The tool is heavy duty and is able to bend thick gauge stock. I only used this to create 90 degree bends but I am sure if you needed to create other angles, you could get precise bends if you also use a T bevel gauge to match up your angles. One side of the tool creates 3/8″ wide bends, while the other tool is used to create 1″ wide bends. The finish is a thick enamal or powder coat like hammered effect finish which should be able to withstand all the elements. Overall a great quailty tool, and a good value.

This tool does what it is designed to do. I have had it for 3 years and it still works as it should.
