Calphalon Select 15-Piece Self-Sharpening Cutlery Knife and Block Set

These knives are of excellent quality and I would actually consider paying even more than the retail price for them. They cut exactly like the extremely expensive pro chef knife sets””if not better. The built in sharpeners are a dream to have. I don’t have to fuss with my out of date knife sharpener anymore because each time I slide the knife in and out of the slot, it self-sharpens without any extra effort. The block itself is really aesthetically pleasing and goes very well with my kitchen. I mostly use the santoku and the chefs knife for everyday cooking and chopping and such, but the kitchen shears are an amazing addition! I use them for everything from cutting herbs and stems to preparing poultry. This set was a much needed addition to my kitchen and as a home baker and someone who cooks daily for my family, I couldn’t be happier with it.

I would like the block better if the scissors were positioned differently. The stick out awkwardly. I like the way that the knives do not slip when cutting and chopping different kinds of fruits and vegetables. There was no hesitation when cutting through potatoes, carrots, and apples. The knife cut smoothly through them. Being dishwasher safe makes the knives convenient as well as practical.

It makes sharpening your knives so much easier! The knives themselves are beautiful and look great on the countertop. On first use the knives were already sharp and ready to go. They are priced at $129 which, to me, is a very reasonable price considering how durable they are and how long I intend to keep the set. Overall, this is a high quality product and I would recommend anyone looking to buy a set of knives to purchase this set. It is awesome!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This set was carefully packed. Each knife was wrapped in plastic with cardboard over the blades & plastic tipping. I liked the labels on the larger knives, but would’ve liked if the block was labeled too or the font was larger & less fine. I loved how the steak knives had pointed tips, not rounded ones. My fav knife was the Santoku. With most weight in the handle, it felt very light & made chopping anything easy. Since the bread knife had an 8″ blade, it made cutting specialty breads much easier. I use the Shears on everything but watch the can opener when putting them back. I worried I’d damage a blade on the sharpeners, but the warranty shows their durability. Overall, I was very impressed.

The compact design uses minimal countertop space and makes you look like a culinary star. The set includes every type of knife I need in the kitchen. The ever sharp feature is a life saver in keeping the knives performing at their best. I do find the placement of the scissors being a bit awkward but its that placement that keeps them so handy. I highly recommend this high performing knife set!

The scissors are great for multiple uses in your entire household. I’m not sure which knife is my favorite as I like them all. the self sharping feature is ideal and eliminates having a dull knife (which I hate), there’s nothing worse than a dull knife to end up cutting yourself with. Yes, these are my go to knives whenever I need a sharp knife. I just love these knives. I’m sorry I was unable to take a picture of the knife set. I am just getting over being sick and my kitchen is a total mess. I guess I’m the only one who can clean also. Back to the knife set, these are by far my best knives in my kitchen and I use them daily. I don’t even like for others to use them cause I don’t want anything to happen to them. can a person be over protective of their knife set? For fear of someone doing bad to them!? [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Calphalon Select Self-Sharpening 15-piece Cutlery knife block is a good entry to mid-level home cook knife set. I have used a similar grade Kitchenaid set for years and despite the single sharpening function, the knives have grown pretty dull. I was glad to receive this set, though, for santitary reasons, I am tending away from knife blocks and toward magnetic knife strips. Brand new the knives are very sharp and easy to hold. The handles seem secure, though a higher end brand would be stainless throughout. I like that each knife holder (of certain blades) have their individual sharpening function, which will allow for more sharpening over the life of the knife block. The main drawback to this knife block is the position of the kitchen shears. I love shears and they are a must-have for any knife set, but these shears are on front of the entire block (not on top with the rest of the knives), creating an awkward jut-out. The knife block will prove more cumbersome to store in my tight apartment kitchen as it needs several more inches of front clearance. Overall good home cook knife set.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am enjoying using the Select by Calphalon Self-Sharpening 15-Piece Cutlery Knife Block Set. I like the look of the set and it has all of the knife types I need and use on a regular basis. The block is a beautiful maple finish, which I prefer over the lighter or darker finishes, and it fits perfectly on the counter under my kitchen cabinets. The knives themselves are pretty standard but look nice and perform well. I really like the fact that the end of the handles are labeled. In past knife block sets I have owned, I always had to pull out each knife until I found the one I needed. The labeling really eliminates that wasted time and energy. The knives are comfortable in the hand and have a nice, balanced weight to them. The handles are more rounded than past knife sets I have used which could lead to slipping if your hands are wet, but I still feel like I have good control with them. These knives are sharp and I have had no issues with that so far. The built in ceramic sharpeners are an added bonus and I think they’ve done a good job keeping the knives sharp. Overall, I am impressed with this set and think it’s a great value for the price.
