Just what I needed! I loved the ratcheting driver as it helped me tap some holes in a tight location.

I put this set through somewhat challenging use finding that the taps dull with too rapidly when tapping in steel, even when using cutting oil specifically formulated for that purpose. I plan to address that by replacing the taps with ones of higher quality as they wear out. I had no such issue with the dies.The selection of taps and dies sizes is pretty good. I like the case provided with this set as it makes for good organization of both the taps and dies, holding them in place. Clear marking is molded into the case for sizes.The ratcheting drive is handy because it comes with adaptation features that permit use of extensions and GearWrench ratchet handles, increasing its versatility. I have down-rated this product solely because of my experience with tap durability for the sizes I used. Otherwise it is a good product overall.

Exactly what I needed. Ratchet style driver made it easy to easily start the tap without getting it cocked or off of 90.

Good product

This GearWrench Combination SAE/Metric Tap and Die Set is very good. It includes 34 of the most common sizes of both SAE and metric taps and dies; Ratcheting “T” wrench; Small and medium tap adapters; Die adapter; Spacer adapter to allow use with round dies; SAE and metric screw pitch gauges; Sliding “T” handle. The fitted case is excellent for keeping everything organized. I didn’t think I’d like the ratcheting “T” wrench because I ALWAYS back off ¼ turn or so to clear chips while cutting threads. However, with the 5 degree arc, I found it very easy to just flip the lever to reverse it, and in some tight places, the 5 degree arc of the ratcheting wrench would certainly be helpful. If needed, the sliding “T” can be used. The die adapter with the “Twist Lock Guide System”, to keep it centered, is a very good feature. However, the adapters have a ball bearing in the end preventing the use of a “Center Tap Guide” (see photo below) which is something I generally try to use when tapping. To use a Center Guide, I’ll have to use my other tap holders. . I tapped four 3/8-16 holes in my drill press table for my cross-feed vise and found the tap to cut extremely well, and clean One of the bolts used for that had some bad threads and I used the die to clean the threads up. That cut extremely well also. Instructions are not needed, or included, but some literature would be nice. The only literature included is the handy tap/drill size chart. I had to go to another seller’s web site to find ANY other information about this set, and even that was incorrect. I’m very pleased with this set and can recommend it.

I am impressed with this set for the price. It has everything you need up to 3/4″. The machine work on the taps & Dies looks quite sharp. I have only used one so far to clean up threads and it worked great, but this is not a very good test. The storage box is very nice and the hand tools are impressive. The smaller “T” handle even comes with a 3/8″ adapter so that you can use it with your 3/8″ sockets as a driver. In one of the questions in this advertisement some one said that the set was made in Mexico, mine says it is made in Taiwan. The only reason I did not give this set a 5 star was because the add stated that it had a limited lifetime warranty. When I read the fine print after I got it, it states that the hand tools are guaranteed but the taps and dies are normal wear and tear, bummer.
