General Tools Swiss Pattern Needle Files Set (12-Piece)

I got these to files to have around the garage shop to have around in cased I needed a small file. I am big do it yourselfer, the files seem to be made of quality metal. few times I have used them worked great. Had a small metal rod that holds a tube, and need ed to get on the inside of the clamp to get rid of a raised, area. Had no problem handling the files. very light weight and easy to use.

It’s a nice little set to have on hand for touching up small spaces and intricate details. You get a wide variety of shapes and they do work. I have a few gripes on the QA end of things. The round files are fairly straight, but most of the flat ones have a slight curve to them. Also several of the handle side ends are not finished and have a fairly sharp burr to them. I would recommend getting this set with the handle attachment and better carry pouch if you can. The price different doesn’t look to be that much more and would be well worth it. Otherwise for infrequent use these will do just fine.

This is a fairly complete set of small files for small fixes or crafts. The 12 different pieces offer a good range of shapes to fit various needs. I’ve used them to fill the edges off of cut bolts and trim down and file smooth some very small, thin tubing. The packet that holds them makes it easy to see which one is which. These have been good for small jobs/fixes around the house and garage and are good enough to use on very precise craft projects.

I got this set of small files because there are so many different shapes, I should have everything I need for filing small areas with this set. It seems there’s always that small area you just can’t get to that needs filing – well this set solves that problem. I like the case they come in too; you can see each file, it doesn’t take up lots of space and it’s easy to store.

General Tools makes a decent product. These files have many uses and should be in every craftsmen’s toolbox. The 12 piece set comes with a convenient soft vinyl storage case slotted to fit each 5-1/2″ long file. Files included (Warding (flat), Square, Crossing, Round, Oval, Half-round, Equalling (mill), Knife, Barrette, Slitting, Joint round edge, Three square). All files are made of high carbon steel, with a #2 Single Cut Swiss pattern, meaning (finer cuts; and are made to tighter tolerances). Needle point files can be used virtually anywhere and across many trades (craftspersons, tool and die makers, hobbyists, watchmakers and jewelers) to name a few.You can use the box to identify each file as there are no markings on these files. Also, these files do not come with a handle (sold separately). Some tips, keep all files away from liquids and moisture. Rusting and pitting will occur as well as dulling of teeth. Use “a little oil” to prevent rusting when storing. Always clean file teeth with a File Card or Brush. Use chalk to keep the teeth from clogging if needed.

There are 12 different shape files in the kit, and they come stored in a nice plastic sleeve type holding case. I have some known HRC 50/55 Rockwell items and the files can cut them no problem. Now for the features that make them only good and not great. The handles are not knurled, the box shows them knurled, the web site shows them knurled but the set I got is not knurled. Most of the files have a bend or warp to them. Not a big deal if the surface you are working on is very short, but it is a big deal if the work surface is long. The file teeth are inconsistent. They start off good and then they are just not there as you move down the length of the file or to the other side of the file. The cutting teeth are off center, there are spots with no cutting teeth, pretty much just a mess. This is a good general-purpose set of needle files at a great price point to be used for non-finicky type work around the home. This is not a precision set of files as the price point indicates. Recommended.

Used these taking shaep ends of guitar frets. I have a few specialized files that did most of the work although i had one or two small places to finesse. They cut well and the small diameter handles allow fingetrip control..Pro: storage case can roll up and fit in a small drawer. thin handles. cons, one was missing cutting teeth on one edge, maybe its designed that way. i still have 11 others..Price is not a big issue

A beautifully crafted set of 12 needle files…sharp, fine and strong. These files resemble what we used to call a set of jewelers files. The little files every mechanic or shop has stashed somewhere in their tool cabinets. You don’t use them often, but when you need one, there they are. These files come in a variety of shapes for a variety of jobs. They are just long enough to not be cumbersome yet long enough to accomplish the job. I have always had small files, but never in the different shapes and quality this set provides. And like i mentioned, they are very sharp! Can’t go wrong with this set.
